Michelle Goldschlag is the Co-founder and CEO of Cultured Kids (CK), a nonprofit organizationthat believes a student’s sense of belonging is the primary catalyst for their success.

Michelle’s entrepreneurial spirit led to two other “failed” businesses before starting CK. Both endeavors, along with her dual degrees in Art & Spanish, strengthened CK’s foundation.

Aside from partnering with schools and community organizations in Northern VA and the Metro Boston area since their 2015 founding, Michelle has provided consulting services for international museums and global organizations like the Holistica Foundation in Brazil.

Michelle’s personal mission is to use her creative gifts and empathy to maximize her impact.

Her lofty professional goals include:

  • Changing the trajectory of education along with her community impact
  • Growing a robust and unified donor community that is genuinely valued
  • Developing the most sought after, kickass volunteer program

Personally, Michelle aspires to:

  • Shed her fear of failure and stop caring what others think
  • Learn to love public speaking (currently makes her sick)
  • Become an author

To Michelle, Cultured Kids is a third child, constantly working its way through new stages of development, inciting sleepless nights, and in constant need of attention & nourishment.

While Michelle loves her job and struggles to draw the line between work and life, during her personal time she can be seen backpacking and hiking with her family all over the country, reading four or more books at a time, and dreaming with reckless abandon.

  • Programs that impact, solve problems and connect for the entire learning community.

Dre “All Day” Baldwin teaches what he learned to help people dominate their game in work and in life. How To Dominate Your Game At Work & In Life (And Avoid Feeling As If You've Wasted Your Talent And Opportunity).

He was a hard-working athlete who had distant dreams of going pro, but he was coming from a small NCAA D3 school, and had no connections to the professional world. To add insult to injury, he couldn't even find an agent to represent him, let alone a professional team to sign with. His career appeared to be over. Most players don't make it pro. It was then  he decided to attend an exposure camp --  a job fair for athletes -- which changed his  life and sports career. From there things started moving in the right direction.

Ahead of the event, he started showing up to the gym every day and doing my work, even when -- ESPECIALLY when -- he least felt like it. This allowed me to tap into a level of confidence that he didn't even know he had -- which not only helped his performance, but made other people believe in him. His mental toughness sharpened, developing the internal fortitude to push himself when  he needed it most.

When all was said and done, he knew his strategy worked when he became a 9-year professional athlete-turned-entrepreneur who has taught his framework to over 73 MILLION business people and athletes worldwide since 2005! He shares his framework for how to dominate any "game” in business, sports and life so you can and avoid feeling as if you've wasted your talent and opportunity.

Show Highlights

  • Make your leadership and school  Youtube famous.
  • “ Work On Your Game” framework you need to know.
  •  Celebrate “separation day”  with the “The Third Day” mindset.
  • Powerful way of answering people's questions.
  • Discipline creates the super you.
  • Stop looking at other people’s plates.
  • Show up and deliver every single time, regardless of emotion with this.
  • Motivation is for amateurs. Out last the clock at midnight.

“Nobody is handed leadership. Leadership is taken. In business it is the exact same thing. You have to take initiative, meaning you have to choose an initiative.”

-Dre “All Day” Baldwin

“You're not going to be for everybody and you don't want to be for everybody. As they say, "When you're trying to be for everybody, you're really for nobody." I would tell a school leader to put yourself out there and how you are. Let the people who want to be with you, let them become your audience. They will identify themselves.”

  • The leadership task that can’t be ignored.
  • 3 truths and 5 decisions.
  • The DNRs leaders need to let go of?

“Leadership is an extraordinarily lonely endeavor oftentimes. Going through the good times and the bad times you need people that you can call on. It doesn't matter the time of day, they will be there for you and you need to make the call. I would underscore what I've learned so far from those reinvention mandate interviews, nobody should do this work alone. The square squad. Write the name down and call them.”

G. Richard Shell is a global thought leader and senior faculty member at one of the world’s leading business schools, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as Chair of Wharton’s Legal Studies and Business Ethics Department, the largest department of its kind in the world. His forthcoming book, The Conscience Code: Lead with Your Values. Advance Your Career addresses an increasingly urgent problem in today’s workplace: standing up for core values such as honesty, fairness, personal dignity, and justice when the pressure is on to look the other way.

Show Highlights

  • “Changing curriculum in an academic setting is like moving a cemetery.”
  • Your job as a leader is to find the real reason for behavior.
  • “Trial balloons” bring out the best work.
  • What pushes people to silence during tough conversations?
  • Useful tools to sell compromise as a worthy victory.
  • The “magic sauce” of negotiations.
  • Be more effective champions for their values.
  • Be able to speak truth to power effectively with the power of 2.

“One of the reasons that it worked was because I did my preliminary due diligence, and then I started with two assumptions and they were non-negotiable. One was, we were not going to lead an initiative to make the students learn. The other was, we're not going to lead an initiative to make the faculty change. A program that you design to make the students learn is going to fail because you have to bring students along. Education, the word means, "bring it out of you." It doesn't mean cram it in to you.”

“If ever there was a discipline suited to problem solving, it's 21st century kinds of notions around geography. Where you're studying how things came to be and the way they are. You're taking those insights and thinking about what that means for what's happening to the earth and the inhabitants of it. Whether those activities are helpful or harmful and how you could be a part in changing that. It's that ability to think like a geographer that might be one of the most important skills that we can give young people now, along with having an Explorer mindset. Being curious about the world and your place in it.”

“Victory is in the classroom. Victory is where the learners are. You can't claim success if you're not impacting learners. The bond between teachers and learners is so powerful. I always felt that the job that I had as an administrator, whether I was at a school level, a district level, a state level, even when I was acting as a philanthropist, I always felt that it was my job to power that bond. It's the job of principals and district superintendents and others, to make sure that that bond between teachers and students is as powerful as it can be. That's where the magic of learning happens.”

“A lot of school leadership books are for changing your school in some way. They're about helping your students, which this is, but this is really for you (Ruckus Maker). This is for you as a school leader to become your best version of yourself and that's something that you don't see in a lot of school leadership books that are out there.  I've read a ton of them. I've published dozens of them. I know that for a fact this is not a message that you see in a lot of other places.”

Most of the talk and the focus around mindsets is on students. While that's important, I might dare say, it's even more important that we focus on mindsets for administrators and for teachers. If they don't have the most positive mindsets, they're going to be limited in their effectiveness to reach and connect with the students and help them to develop the more positive mindsets.”

FuelEd was founded by Megan Marcus in 2012 on the principle that relationships drive learning. While training as a therapist and serving as a researcher for the book The Social Neuroscience of Education by Dr. Louis Cozolino, Marcus recognized the parallels between the teaching and the counseling professions: both are founded on connection, both could promote human development. She knew she was on to something. Her action: pursue a Master’s degree in Education, Policy, and Management from Harvard University to explore whether elements of therapists’ professional training could be translated for an educational audience. Shortly after graduation, Marcus incorporated FuelEd as a non-profit organization and launched her organization with a three-day pilot training for 10 teachers at Houston’s YES Prep Southwest.

Since then, FuelEd has partnered with over one hundred K-12 schools, organizations, and educator preparation programs across the country to help educators develop the emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and attunement necessary to build secure relationships that drive learning and development.

  • Student's behavior is an invitation to consider, not react to.

“If you have teachers whose cups are full, who are feeling more competent and able to provide that support for the students. Otherwise things come out sideways and you're putting out fires constantly trying to take care of everyone. It's something that creates more efficiency, but it's really hard to get started.”

ORGANIZED BINDER

Organized Binder is the missing piece in many classrooms. Many teachers are great with the main content of the lesson. Organized Binder helps with powerful introductions, savvy transitions, and memorable lesson closings. Your students will grow their executive functioning skills (and as a bonus), your teachers will become more organized too. Help your students and staff level up with Organized Binder.

Siobhan Davenport is the President & CEO of Crittenton Services of Greater Washington (CSGW). CSGW works in conjunction with schools to close education and achievement gaps for teen girls to feel empowered through a whole-child, whole-community curriculum. In her previous role as Crittenton’s Director of Strategic Partnerships, she built collaborations between schools, nonprofits, and corporations to better meet Crittenton girls’ challenges and launched the Declare Equity for Girls: It’s Time campaign. Siobhan is an inspiration– the daughter of teen parents who has defied every statistic and now leads a nonprofit empowering younger versions of herself. Additionally, Siobhan serves as a commissioner for the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism and sits on the Advisory Council for Ascend at the Aspen Institute. Siobhan holds a master’s degree in journalism from American University.

Show Highlights

  • Understanding barriers that girls face and teaching action advocacy.
  • Creating safe space and suspending judgment as an intentional move as an organization.
  • The key to building world class culture with one question.
  • Reflection for leaders to help navigate and engage at school and at home.
  • Serve the whole child by suspending judgment with specific staff training.
  • Evolution of a sacred sister circle-hood. “Meet girls where they are, but don’t let them stay there.”

“Let Teens Lead. As adults, we have wonderful experiences in our lives and we get to a point where we say, ‘Do this, do that, do the other.’ We forget that teens are the experts in their own lives. They come with so much experience and they know what they need, and we can be a support to them and get the services that they need.”

Once you find it, celebrate it, talk about it, share it, and it will spread like wildfire.”
